joint tactical networking center
The Joint Tactical Networking Center facilitates secure, interoperable, and affordable joint and coalition software-defined, tactical networking capabilities for Service, Joint, Combatant Commanders and industry partners.
Building on a legacy of software-defined radio technology experience, we develop and/or modernize radio waveforms and test and certify our partners’ tactical networking devices to ensure interoperability across the Services. We improve the U.S. warfighter’s ability to communicate and share information over secure radio communications.
The JTNC reports to both the OSD (ATL) Executive Steering Board and the U.S. Army Senior Acquisition Executive (SAE). Technical advisors to the JTNC include the U.S. Army Office of the Chief Systems Engineer (OCSE), the U.S. Navy Chief Engineer (CHENG), and the U.S. Air Force CHENG.
The Value of JTNC
The JTNC is the only certifying agent of software-defined radio knowledge for the Department of Defense. More specifically:
- The JTNC centrally manages, develops and sustains current and future Joint Tactical Networking applications, waveforms and reference implementations.
- The JTNC performs application standards conformance and interoperability tests against reference implementations.
- The JTNC maintains configuration control of the open standards and interfaces of the software communications architecture.
- The JTNC facilitates industry innovation for future enhancements and communications platforms employing government-owned JTRS and other waveforms, network management services, and software communications architecture.
